Dave´s idea on Winterizing

Those that live in places that are prone to receive sleet, ice, snow, ... know that all of this can be extremely hard on a car. Not only does the car have to deal with these forces of nature but there is even a more dangerous enemy that pairs up with the above mentioned factors and that is road salt! In order to reduce risk on accident, traffic jams, ... governments like to pour salt over their roads to keep them open for all traffic and reduce the negative impact the bad weather will play on mentioned traffic. However, that same road salt can play havoc with your car. To get to the safe side it is best to prepare bad cold and bad weather way before it rolls in and will seriously endanger the quality of your vehicle.

So you better thoroughly wash the car complete and make sure all tar deposits, stains, ... will be properly addressed. If you see exposed metal, or heavy scratches for that matter, make sure you handle those areas with a lot of care. Using the proper touch up tools (like paints and the like that are widely available) make sure to address the areas affected to give rust not a chance.

A car can easily be waxes in cooler weather, see section above, and should be waxes right before winter comes around.

This way the bodywork will be better protected and will be better equiped to deal with those nasty conditions that will be thrown at it.

Make sure to address the areas that will be hit hardest, think wheelwells and the like, thorougly. After all, these are the areas where salt and dirt will accumulate.

As winter goes on, make sure to give your vehicle it´s regular bath. Whenever you see a buildup of dirt, debris, ... get to your local car wash as fast as you can are get ready to brake out the H.P. washer and deal with it yourself.

When spring is in the air, get ready to rewax your vehicle in order to keep your car looking it´s very best for years to come. People will wonder how you menage to get your car looking so much younger than it really is. All it takes is some tender loving care.
