There is no sense in stating the obvious but I will do it anyway. What the heck. Wheels & Tires simply are the most difficult parts of the car to keep clean and shiny. It is not hard to know why. They are the things that are closest to the road and the only parts that are in constant contact with the road. Therefore, they are hardest hit with all sorts of particles.
Furthermore there is the matter of brake dust to reckon with. And it sure doesn´t help that the brakes themselves can become extremely hot. This way the dirt has a chance to really burn into the, already hard hit, surface.
Wheel & Tire care has evolved in recent years as it had to cope with new trends and possibilities as painted chrome wheels, plastic hubcabs, magnesium rims, ... Each of these surfaces can be very sensitive and prone to deterioration due to chemicals. Therefore a wide variety of specially formulated and carefully blended products came to market to provide maximum cleaning power without causing surface damage.
To help while cleaning, it is usefull to move the car a couple of feet after partial cleaning. This will make it easier to clean and shine the parts that were closest to the surface the first time round.
If there is a reasonable amoutn of brake dust build-up, it will be handy to use a stiff scrubbing pad to agitate the area. This, along with the right cleaner, will make sure your rims will sparkle as never before.
